Bonding Over Evil, Man-eating Plants

DSC_1423

Molly and I found one of Loren’s Christmas presents, “Fly Trap Fiends.” It lets you grow your own Venus Fly Traps!

DSC_1424

Ta daa! Molly and I were going to have some “sister bonding time.” When we saw this, Molly declared that it would be the perfect project for us to do together.

We spread out all the supplies on a table.

DSC_1426

And that’s when I saw it. A snake!

DSC_1427

“Eek!! It’s a snake!” I shrieked.

DSC_1428

“Calm down, Savannah! It’s not real,” Molly said.

DSC_1429

She picked the toy up. “But it would be so cool if it were real.”

DSC_1430

Cool?! Eww, Molly!”

DSC_1431

Molly laughed and started reading the directions.

DSC_1432

“Woah! Look at this, Ana,” Molly said. She pointed at a picture of some Venus Fly Traps.

DSC_1433

I made gagging noises. “Those are so gross.”

DSC_1434

Molly looked up from reading the directions. “Let’s get started! Can you put the dirt in the terrarium base?” she asked.

DSC_1435

I pulled the giant clump of dehydrated dirt out of its bag by the tips of my fingers.

DSC_1436

I put the dirt in the base. “Now what, Molly? Molly?”

DSC_1437

I looked up and saw that Molly wasn’t there! “Molly!” I shouted.

DSC_1438

She came back just then with a grin on her face. “I went to get the watering-can,” she explained.

DSC_1439

Molly poured the water over the dehydrated dirt to make it hydrated dirt.

DSC_1440

When all the water was in the base, we stood there and waited for the dirt to get soft.

DSC_1441

I started poking it with a spoon to try to speed things up.

DSC_1443

Finally the dirt was ready, and we took turns smoothing the surface with the spoon.

DSC_1444

Then we sprinkled blue stones on it for decoration.

DSC_1445

Molly put the snake in next. (She had wanted me to do it, but, you know, snakes aren’t exactly my favorite animal.)

DSC_1446

Then she put the seeds in. They were so tiny!

DSC_1447

“I think it’s done,” Molly told me.

DSC_1448

“No, it’s not!” I said with a laugh.

DSC_1449

“You need to water it.”

DSC_1450

“Oh, right!” Molly exclaimed. “I forgot.”

DSC_1451

Once the seeds were watered, I wiped up the dirt and Molly put the lid on.

DSC_1452

Now it’s done,” Molly said, nodding as we stepped back to survey our handiwork.

DSC_1453

I put my arm around my sister. “I can’t believe I’m saying this . . . but that was pretty fun. But I was kind of hoping that those man-eating plants would bite my fingers off.”

DSC_1454

Molly gaped at me. “Really?”

DSC_1455

“Yeah, of course! Wouldn’t it be fun to say, ‘My fingers were eaten by a Venus Fly Trap’?” I continued sarcastically.

Really?”

“No.”

“But you just said . . .”

“Ugh . . .”

THE END =)
