Luciana Vega Doll & Book
I have a lot of feelings about Luciana and pretty much all of them are good.
First of all, we got another POC GOTY (she’s of Chilean descent)! Second, I’m thrilled that she’s into STEM. AG has been making a lot of their characters like the arts, and while I love that kind of thing myself, it’s refreshing and inspiring to have one of them passionate about science.
As for the doll herself, I think she’s adorable, and if I weren’t growing out of my dolls, I would buy her right away. I love the purple streak in her hair, and, of course, those amazing boots. The galaxy print on the dress is a bit too much for me, but I’m sure it appeals to the target age.
I’m loving her holographic theme, it’s so cute. I don’t think her accessories are that great, but I’m glad that they gave her a backpack instead of the usual purse. If she’s at space camp, she’s definitely going to need a roomy bag.
I’m a huge fan of sewing patches onto everything, so A+ for that. I also really like the black shoes. They make my secretly emo heart happy.
This is insanely cool and I am completely here for it. It comes with dumbbells, a toy 3D printer, petri dishes, etc.
According to this report, women in the U.S. held only 24% of STEM jobs in 2015. I love the idea of young girls playing with this set, becoming interested in science, and going on to up that percent. Push that feminist agenda, AG.
My favorite part of this set is probably the container of succulents sitting on the top shelf. I know I’m completely missing the point, but I just really, really love plants.
SHE’S WEARING SPACE BUNS.
I don’t particularly care for this one, but it’s still cute.
Telescope Projector Set
Apparently the telescope “lights up and projects space scenes.” That’s pretty sweet, and I am always a sucker for space. I think the blanket is a bit ugly, but it’s still a nice set.
Robot pets will always be better than real ones because you don’t have to clean up after them.
I like some of the pieces separately, but in my opinion, it doesn’t work together that well. But I love the jacket, I think it’s those patches drawing me in again.
Visitor Center Accessories
I don’t care that this is mostly just paper, I am 100% ready to drop $20 to get that NASA shirt. I have one in my size and I need my dolls to match.
My overall thoughts on Luciana:
I like that they gave her some feminine elements (pink, dresses, pretty hair) instead of making her a complete tomboy to match the male-dominated science field. Also, when I was younger, I wanted to be an astronaut, and although my plans have since changed, I am still in love with space. So Luciana is making me rather nostalgic.
I’m not a huge fan of the galaxy print found in most of her sets/outfits, but I understand why it’s there. AG was just tying everything together with a common theme.
I don’t know much about her story, but Luciana is already one of my favorite GOTYs from AG in awhile. Even though I’m not as into dolls as I used to be, it would still be nice if I could get her and a few things from her collection someday.
What do you think of Luciana? Are you going to buy her? I’d love to have a discussion with you in the comments, but please remember to be respectful to others. :)
