GOTY 2017 Debut

Hey, guys!

The GOTY debut was a lot of fun. I drove up to D.C. with my dad, walked around the store for quite a long time, made fun of the sets I didn’t like . . . I also got to meet Izzy from Sew Sweet Dollies (a private blog). Getting to meet you was amazing, Izzy! You’re also incredibly cute. I say that in a non-creepy way, but I really mean it.

If anyone is wondering, I don’t know what the free debut gift is. I didn’t get one, and I don’t even know if there was one this year. Does anyone know?

Anyway, here are my pictures from the store.

The new Girl of the Year, Gabriela McBride. I like her pants and shoes.

The AG community has been requesting an African-American GOTY for quite some time, and I’m glad our wish was finally granted. Maybe I’m being picky, but I would have liked Gabriela a lot more if there was something more unique about her. She looks just like the African-American Truly Me dolls. If American Girl had given her a feature that made her stand out, I would have considered buying her.

They gave her box a completely new style . . . interesting.

So Gabriela is into the arts, right? Dancing, painting, music, poetry. That’s cool and all (I freaking love the arts), but didn’t we just have a dancer GOTY in 2014? And isn’t Melody a singer? I guess AG has been running low on GOTY ideas.

Super sparkly outfit. I like it, actually.

A lot of you have been asking if I bought anything. Well, duh, of course I did. :P I’ll be posting tomorrow, hopefully, about what I got.

And, yeah, I did get a doll.

I wasn’t planning on buying her, but she came home anyway. XD Any guesses?

UPDATE 12:10

We’re here!

* * *

Hi!

We’re going to be leaving soon and expect to arrive around twelve. I just thought I’d update you guys on what’s happening.

Hmm . . . where to start?

1-dsc_0003

Nevaeh is the lucky doll that gets to come with me. I don’t believe she’s ever been to the store before.

I’m going with my dad, a muscular bald dude with a beard. He might look a bit scary, but he teaches Sunday School to second graders, and he’s really nice. If anyone sees us at the store, don’t be afraid to approach us, please!

2-dsc_0004

It’s probably a good idea to post a picture of what I’m wearing, so here you go. ☺

I’ll be updating this post as the day goes along. I hope to see some of you there!

I’m Going to the GOTY Debut

Hey, darlings!

I’ll be at the D.C. American Girl store on January 1st. My dad is taking me (how many dads are willing to take their daughter to a pink store filled with dolls and excited girls?) and I’ll be getting lots of pictures of the new Girl of the Year, Gabriela McBride.

Are any of you going to be at the D.C. store for the GOTY’s debut? If so, I’d love to meet up with you! It’s my dream to meet my internet friends in real life.

Anyway, on the first, I’ll either post something new or update this with more information, like what time we’ll be arriving, what doll I’ll bring, etc.

I really hope I get to meet some of you. :D

Tenney Grant {My Opinions}

I’ve been a bit disconnected from the American Girl community lately, but as I’ve caught up on my reading, I’m learning a lot about Tenney Grant. If anyone is as confused about who this new doll is as I was, this is what I’ve gathered.

For awhile, the AG community thought Tenney Grant would be the Girl of the Year for 2017. It turns out that theory isn’t quite right. I’ve heard it said that she will be American Girl’s “modern doll.” And, despite not being the GOTY, she will be released shortly after the 2017 one, on February 9th.

Small Dolls in a Big World found a leaked picture of Tenney Grant (see it here). However, it looks far more like a costume doll than an official one. The eyebrows and the vibrant lips look a bit off.

It’s been confirmed that her hands will be uniquely shaped, allowing her to hold instruments (she likes playing guitar). This seems a bit weird to me, because I’m wondering if they’ll look strange on the doll.

Normally, the age range for American Girl books are 9 – 12. However, “Tenney’s Journal” is recommended for girls 10 – 14. It could be that her story will deal with more serious topics than AG’s past books.

Finally, part of her collection will be a boy doll called Logan Everett. Many bloggers are against the idea of a American Girl offering boy dolls, and have speculated that Logan will be Tenney’s boyfriend. Personally, I don’t know exactly what to think. On one hand, I dislike the idea of giving a character a boyfriend. AG is targeted at young girls, and is definitely influential. I don’t think teaching 9 – 12 year old girls that they need a boyfriend is a good idea.

But on the other hand, I am considering buying Logan. (It really depends on how cute he is.) I’ve wanted to add a boy doll to my collection for quite some time, but I have no clue how to create a custom. Also, my dolls dislike being dressed up as boys when I need one for photostories/photoshoots.

Anyway, American Girl must have been planning Tenney Grant for quite some time. The names Tenney and Logan have been trademarked for years . . . Maybe since 2014, I’m not quite sure. I’m excited to see exactly what’s in store for 2017!

Is Felicity Returning in 2017?

American Girl Doll Artist from Small Dolls in a Big World has discovered an item on Amazon called “BeForever 2017 3 Book Set.” The authors are Kathleen Ernest, Valerie Tripp (the writer of the original Felicity series), and Juliana Kolesova. One book is called “Gunpowder and Tea Cakes” (by Kathleen Ernest), one is called “A Stand for Independence” (by Valeria Tripp), but AG Doll Artist couldn’t find a third book.

Gunpowder? Tea cakes? Independence? All of these things have to do with Felicity Merriman!

When American Girl brought back Samantha Parkington for the Historical revamp, it made all of us fans realize that AG can, and will, rescue retired Historical dolls from the archives. I was hoping that they would bring back Felicity Merriman, AG’s spunky colonial-era girl.

The first American Girl catalog I got was the 2010 holiday edition. It announced that Felicity was to be retired. I fell in love with her and begged my mom to get her for Christmas. I didn’t get her, but spent the next years searching for used Felicity dolls on eBay. I bought a colonial-style dress pattern so I could make Felicity’s meet dress for myself. I thought Williamsburg was the coolest place on earth. I bought the Felicity movie. Felicity was my favorite character.

And now she’s coming back? I’m very excited for my favorite doll to return to stores in 2017!

P.S. A big thanks to American Girl Doll Artist for uncovering all this information!

Who Should GOTY 2017 Be? Tag

GOTY tag

Hey, guys! Geeky_Girl from The Dolls of Texas nominated me for a really fun tag that she invented:
the Who Should GOTY 2017 Be? Tag.

American Girl, if you’re reading this post, start working on my GOTY idea. Please?

Rules:

  • Thank the person who nominated you
  • Answer the 10-15 questions given
  • Make 10 questions for the nominees to answer
  • Nominated 2-5 people

What is your GOTY’s name?

Lucina Rivera Ramirez.

How old is she?

13. I think it’s about time American Girl ventured outside of the eleven-year-old box they’re stuck in.

What are her hobbies?

Soccer, babysitting, performing magic tricks, and paintballing.

Where does she live?

Pennsylvania.

Does she have any siblings?

Three brothers: one older than her, two younger.

Friends?

Riley, the keeper on her all-girls soccer team. Matias, the boy who works at the concession stand at the soccer fields. Amara, a dramatic private schooler with a purple streak in her auburn hair (Lucina and Amara meet while paintballing).

Pets?

A box turtle. :)

What school does she go to?

Lucina and her siblings are homeschooled, though her older brother, Andrés, goes to public school.

Outfits in collection?

Meet outfit: orange tank top, gray athletic shorts, a purple fabric headband, sneakers, and soccer ball earrings. Pajamas: old soccer jersey and soft pants. Casual: jean capris, a dark blue sweatshirt, white shirt with colorful geometric print, and a watch. She would also have a white and blue soccer uniform (complete with ball and water bottle),  a sequined black and white magic-show outfit (with top hat and bow tie), paint-splattered jeans and T-shirt for paintballing, and a lime green skater dress. And maybe she would have a Hershey Park T-shirt, since she lives in PA.

Random?

Well, I haven’t gotten to actually tell you what Lucina looks like yet, so I’ll do that. ;) She’s half Mexican, with skin the color of Josefina’s and black hair. Her hair would be a bit longer than Emily Bennett’s, and parted on the side. Lucina would have gray eyes — AG hasn’t made many dolls with eyes like that, and I think it would give her a unique look.

I hope you guys liked learning about my ideal GOTY!

I tag . . .

Anyone who likes Kanani!

Questions:

  • What is your GOTY’s name?
  • How old is she?
  • What does she look like?

  • Where does she live?
  • Does she have any siblings?
  • Friends?
  • Pets?
  • What school does she go to?

If Lucina was a real doll, would you buy her?
