I Finally Come Out of the Cave of Despair

DSC_1530

“Did you know that Mom is going to get the new Girl of the Year?” Saige asked Ivy. They were talking right in front of the Cave of Despair.

DSC_1531

“Really?” Ivy replied. “She is so cool. I can’t wait to meet her!”

DSC_1532

I pulled away from the crack in the closet door and sighed. Mom was getting the new GOTY? Traitor!

DSC_1533

I peeked through the crack again — and saw a picture of the GOTY that my sisters were looking at.

DSC_1534

Ugh! She made me so mad. She was so pretty . . . everybody loved her . . . and now she was going to invade my home? I decided that if I was going to have to live with her anyway, why stay in the Cave of Despair any longer? I would enjoy the last bit of my life without her in it

DSC_1535

I pushed the closet door open and stumbled out into the light.

DSC_1536

“Hey, Isabelle! You finally came out,” Ivy celebrated. “We’ve all been missing you while you sulked.”

“Yep! Why’d you decide to come out?” Saige added.

DSC_1537

I glared at the picture of the new GOTY. “Her,” I growled.

DSC_1538

Then Saige grabbed my hand. “Come on, Izzy. Ivy and I can brush your hair and stuff, and then you’ll feel lots better.”

Ivy and Saige ran down to our dollhouse and dragged me along behind them.

DSC_1539

They pulled a chair up to Ivy’s room on the third floor and got to work.

After some serious hair brushing, makeup-ing, and outfit picking, we went out for a walk in the snow.

Bonding with a Cave of Despair Escapee

*You can start thinking about What’s Up Wednesday now 🙂 *

DSC_1477

I sat on Tracy’s bed, gazing longingly at a mermaid figurine Mom and Dad had given to me just days before they died. I hadn’t know that it was the last thing they would ever give me.

DSC_1478

It brought back so many memories — Mom, Dad, my sister and friends.

DSC_1479

I was about to have a complete meltdown when I heard the door open downstairs. I stashed the figurine with the rest of my stuff and went to investigate.

DSC_1480

Hurrying across the room was the last person I expected to see: Saige!

DSC_1481

“Woah! Saige! Slow down, would ya? I haven’t seen you since New Years! Where are you going?” I exclaimed.

DSC_1482

“Oh, hi Savannah! I was just going to the art room,” she said.

DSC_1483

Then she gasped and grabbed my hand. “Oooh, I have an idea!”

I groaned. Uh oh. Saige had an idea.

“You can come with me! We can do that ‘bonding’ thing that Caro wants us to do.”

And with that I found myself being towed across the house to the “art room.”

DSC_1485

The art room was actually very small.

And I said so.

DSC_1486

“The art room is kinda small, don’t you think, Saige?”

DSC_1487

“It’s the perfect size for one person to create in,” she said as she started putting the contents of the art room onto a tray, “but maybe not two.”

DSC_1488

She handed me a small table and I followed her out the door.

“Where are we going?” I asked.

“To the bigger art room!” replied Saige with a grin.

DSC_1489

Saige set the tray down on a table when we got to the bigger art room.

DSC_1490

The bigger art room actually was quite bigger. It had two tables in it, a chair, and some supplies were on one of the tables.

DSC_1491

“OK, so what do we do now?” I asked.

DSC_1492

Saige picked up an apron. “Put this on,” she instructed.

DSC_1493

As Saige tied the apron on, I started to feel, just a tiny bit, that I might actually belong here after all.

DSC_1494

Saige spread out some supplies on the table behind us.

DSC_1495

“One of the reasons I left the Cave of Despair,” Saige began, “was because I wanted to try out these new paints!”

“What’s another reason?” I asked.

“Izzy. . . “

DSC_1496

“Oh, and I also wanted to use these crayons,” she continued.

DSC_1497

Soon Saige had set up a canvas and her painting things.

DSC_1498

“What are you gonna do, Savannah?” she asked me as she wet her brush.

DSC_1499

I shrugged. “I’m not very artistic, but I guess I’ll draw something with the crayons.”

DSC_1500

I grabbed a piece of paper and started drawing.

DSC_1501

After half in hour of being creative in silence, we each had something. That’s mine.

DSC_1502

“Woah! It’s so pretty,” Saige complimented.

DSC_1503

Then she turned her easel around so I could see her painting.

DSC_1504

“Um . . . what . . . is that?” I asked after a moment of stunned silence.

DSC_1505

“It’s you, ” Saige replied with a little smile.

My guess is that she had been expecting my reaction.

DSC_1506

“Wait . . . WHAT?!” I exclaimed, my voice rising. “You think I look like a faded rainbow???”

DSC_1507

She looked at her painting again. “I might just call it that,” she mused. ” ‘The Faded Rainbow.’ “

DSC_1508

“Explain, por favor?” I demanded.

DSC_1509

“Well, I was just painting what I saw,” she told me.

DSC_1510

“Right now, you’re this.” She pointed to the faded rainbow.

DSC_1511

“But with some love –” she pointed to the heart “– you’ll become the bright rainbow.”

DSC_1512

I nodded. I wouldn’t admit it out loud, but I really did feel like a faded rainbow. All the color and sparkle had gone out of my life two years ago, when Mom and Dad died.

DSC_1513

I looked at my drawing again. I thought it was rather pretty.

“This was so fun!” I said enthusiastically on a sudden impulse. “We should do this again sometime!”

DSC_1514

Saige raised her hands over her head in victory. “YES! That is exactly what I was waiting for!!”

THE END =)

New Years Eve

DSC_1337

On that fateful day that is every year, called New Years Eve, the girls were gathered in the living room; Savannah watching Disney movies on the laptop, Tracy playing Minecraft on her phone, Molly writing, Caroline and Emily having a pleasant chit-chat, and Ivy trying very hard to read while the new kitten walked back and forth on her magazine.

But where are our lovely Girl of the Year friends, Saige and Isabelle?

DSC_1338

Why, in their Cave of Despair, of course.

They had shut themselves up in a closet in Loren’s room the minute it was December 31, the last day of 2014.

DSC_1339

They didn’t do anything. Only cry bitterly and watch Saige Paints the Sky and Isabelle Dances into the Spotlight again and again.

DSC_1340

Nobody was allowed in — not even the girls’ pets, Coconut and Rembrandt.

DSC_1341

Caroline was really quite worried about them. They were in such a state of despair that they didn’t even want ice cream.

She had knocked on the closet door and asked, “Can I come in? I have ice cream!”

“Leave us alone,” and “Go away,” was what she heard.

DSC_1342

“I’ve got strawberry and vanilla for Isabelle, and banana and mint for Saige,” Caroline continued.

“NO!” they replied, and then burst into another round of sobs as they saw a picture of GOTY 2015 Grace.

DSC_1343

They really were quite pathetic. Saige’s heart was broken because she was about to be retired for one whole year, and Isabelle thought that the world was ending because in a matter of hours she would no longer be the GOTY.

DSC_1348

*Back in the living room*

Someone knocked on the door — our special visitor from Dolls Domain.

DSC_1349

Emily rushed to let her in. “It’s Kanani!” she exclaimed.

DSC_1350

“Yippee,” Tracy said sarcastically. She didn’t always get along with Kanani.

DSC_1351

When Kanani came in, the New Years Eve party began!

DSC_1352

There was pink velvet cake.

DSC_1353

And Sprite,

DSC_1354

and cupcakes!

DSC_1355

And there was a rainbow of pom-poms on the floor. Since we didn’t have any balloons, the pom-poms were used instead. (This should be fun to clean up . . .)

DSC_1356

On the house tour Kanani was kindly given by her  frenemy Tracy, she walked into a pole.

DSC_1357

And another.

DSC_1358

Well, Tracy had to physically drag her sisters out of the Cave of Despair. They put up quite the fight; Saige even found the butter-knife Tracy was going to use to cut the cake.

DSC_1359

DSC_1360

Blooper =)

DSC_1361

When Tracy finally retrieved the knife from her “traumatized” sister, she cut the cake.

DSC_1362

Hehehe!! (Kelly from Dolls Domain is spending the night with me — we just tried a piece of the cake and it is very interesting. The icing is extremely textured — we kinda might have used granulated sugar instead of powdered :P)

The dolls are very determined to pull an all nighter. (So are me and Kelly — lets see if we can do it 🙂 )
