Hello! Today, I’m going to do a review of Maryellen Larkin, American Girl’s 1950s doll.
Let’s begin with her outfit.
She comes with a lightweight aqua shrug.
The letter M is embroidered on the left shoulder.
It has a diamond pattern.
Maryellen comes with a striped sundress. It has a sweetheart top with an aqua bow at the neckline.
A matching blue bow encircles the waist.
The pleated skirt goes just past her knees.
Her shoes are strappy black Mary Janes. They secure with Velcro.
A large hairbow is tied around Maryellen’s high ponytail. The bow is attached to a hair scrunchie.
Onto the doll herself. She has light skin and the classic face mold. My Maryellen’s face looks childish and innocent.
She has feathered eyebrows and hazel eyes.
Her hair, describe by American Girl as strawberry blonde, has more than one color woven into the wig: orange-red and several shades of blonde.
She was sideswept bangs.
When you take Maryellen’s hair out of it’s original high ponytail, it comes down to just above her waist.
It curls easily.
Overall, Maryellen Larkin is a gorgeous doll with easy-to-style hair. Buy her from American Girl HERE for $115.
You will need:
- Wire hairbrush
- Squirt bottle
- Two elastics
- Bow (optional)
And, of course, a doll. 😉 This hairstyle works best on dolls with medium or long hair.
Start by gathering the hair on the upper half of the doll’s head. Secure with one of the elastics.
Now you’ve done the half-up part of this hairstyle. But we still need to do the fishtail.
Take the ponytail and split it into two equal parts.
Take a piece of hair from side A (left side). Cross it over and let it merge with side B (right).
Then take a section from side B and cross it over to side A. Continue going back and forth between side A and side B until you run out of hair. Tie off with the remaining elastic.
The finished fishtail should look like this.
Now you’re finished, simple as that.
The half-up fishtail is a cute, summery style.
Dress it up by adding a bow or colorful hair extension.
Did you try this hairstyle on one of your dolls? I’d love to see! Email me a picture at email@example.com.
Eve and Ellie, my newest girls, haven’t been getting the attention they deserve. I took them out yesterday during the golden hour — an hour before sunset — for a photoshoot. Enjoy!
THEIR HAIR IS PERFECT, OK. ❤
I really love this picture and the next one. The bokeh, the dandelion, the lighting, her hair — ahhh.
Eve, apparently, has a stalker-ish obsession with tiny flowers. Weird.
If you actually looked at all of my pictures (I took a lot, I know), then good for you! *claps*

Anyway. All you need to know is that I took some more pictures of the extremely photogenic Ellie. She’s posing by our neighbor’s fence — the same fence, in fact, that is the Road to Pamel (If you haven’t read my photostory series Road to Pamel, go do that).
*whispers* Shameless self-promotion.
My new American Girl doll arrived today! I decided to sit in the driveway and read a Sherlock Holmes mystery while waiting for her to arrive. Because reading about a British genius will make the mail arrive sooner.
So, isn’t it cool that it’s Leap Day? I always wished that I had been born on February 29th . . . (btw, who else saw today’s Google Doodle? I almost died from the cuteness of it.)
Anyway! Are you ready to see who I got?
Drum roll, please . . .
Here’s a hint: she’s a Beforever doll!
Everyone, please give a warm welcome to . . .
Yes — as so many of you correctly guessed, I bought American Girl’s 50’s doll, Maryellen Larkin.
Since I already have a doll with “Mary” in her name (I’m looking at you, MJ), I decided to rename her Elise — Ellie for short.
Wave hello, Ellie! 🙂
She is so beautiful, and I’m super happy that I got to add her to my collection.
The Happy House of AG doll count has been upped to twelve! O.o
I love how innocent she looks. ☺
Can we talk about her ponytail? ‘Cause it’s just super cute.
Do you have Maryellen Larkin?
